'Gone Sketchin'

Sara and I have been gone - really gone - for the last month! 'Traveled above the Arctic Circle on a "mailboat", in and out of the fjords of Norway, explored the horrors and history of WWII in caves of Lapland and WWI in trenches around Ypres, Belgium, impressed with the boatbuilding and navigation expertise of the ancient Vikings, spoiled with way too much good food and drink with new friends from around the world.

Now recovering from jet lag, I'm back to my studio during breaks from pulling weeds in our well watered garden. I'll soon add to my gallery a few sketches made on the trip, then post some final renderings worthy to surround with a frame.

But, in the meantime, 'thought you might enjoy a photo taken by a fellow voyager, showing me lost in a world far far away!

Sounds like a beautiful trip (and some of it sad). Glad you are back in the studio. How is the pic of grandpa Brewer coming?

Oh, Nancy. Grandpa has slid way back onto the back burner. You can't believe what I've gotten myself (or should I blame the Lord). I'm developing an illustrated history of the Moravian Church, from pre-reformation up to the time of world-wide mission effort. Nearly 30 pictures so far with descriptive text! Don't know where this will lead but it's become an obsession.
Afraid Grandpa will have to wait. He would understand.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Of course I'm envious. If you do something wonderful of a Norway sketch, put my name on it. Will make a Christmas gift for guy I'm seeing who is very proud of his Norway heritage.

Thanks for your comment Jeri. It was wonderful, altho warmer than I expected.
I do have 2 scenes in mind: one drawing deep into a fjord with rain obscuring the distant mountains; another showing detail of the prow of a Viking ship built around 900's AD which was pulled up onto land after time at sea to be used as a burial chamber for an important king. I'll let you know as I start developing them.
The Norse culture is very special!
